Today we set out in a southerly direction headed somewhere but really nowhere in particular. Start up WikiCamps and find out the Ettamogah Pub (the real one) has a free camping area in the carpark. So with destination set away we went, and of course looking out for the brown check this out signs and stumbled across and amazing little place called Hartley which contained some restored and some original buildings. It is often great to read about and consider the sheer determination of the people who lived in these remote areas. No ipad, no internet very little communication but they still made a life in spite of it. We truly are blessed to stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before.
After our impromptu tour we set out again for the Ettamogah and talked with the locals who were amazing people each with a story of their own. The only shame was that, something that is an Australian icon is struggling to survive. I know it is a pub and alcohol problems are rife in our country but it is known for much more. We set up camp for the night and met a couple beside us who are visiting the Sunshine Coast in August and are interested in doing Alpha with us.
